May 13/14 Oh What A Beautiful Morning

Amazingly, we got out for the airport - bags and baggage - at around the time we had hoped to.   Three of us (ahem, the gentlemen) blitzed through security, which had roughly 5 people in line, one of us had a TSA agent who was COMPLETELY confused as to why the cat kept setting off the metal detectors.  Call me wacky, but it might have been the harness and tags that I kept trying to take off and you kept telling me to keep on.

And one of us had to have e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. checked.  Wheelchair, liquids - all five of our bags of liquids for some reason - , bags, meal replacement, electronics, full pat-down...... e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.   The TSA agents indicated they do this because she's in a wheelchair.  Really?  They do this to everyone in a wheelchair?  Yikes.  They suck.

Then, they informed us that we were leaving out of Gate 3.  But the check-in gate was Gate 27.  So we had to walk the entire length of the airport - bag and baggage - and cat - to get down to the gate.  We should have had enough time to get the airport and then have an hour of down time before anything else.   But, of course, nothing is our friend today.  Instead, all our information about the cat and the wheelchair was lost in the great Lufthansa computer system and suddenly all the documentation that we were told needed to be finished before we landed in Spain (28 hours from now) needed to be done before we boarded the plane (1 hour from now).

Eventually we did get aboard, we did get to sleep, we did land in Frankfurt.

Since we had an 8 hour layover in Frankfurt, we were hoping to spend it wandering around the town a bit.  However, the airline helpfully forcibly checked the wheelchair all the way through to Madrid - leaving us with all our (and the cat's) luggage, all Irene's supplemental nutrition, and no wheels.  Ah well.  I guess we wanted some rest after all, right?

So we slept through the day; ate really awful, overpriced airport wurst and pretzels; searched everywhere for a drinking fountain which seem to not exist in the Frankfurt airport; and got lots of followers for Martin's Instagram account.
