With the sound of MUUUUUUUUUUUUUSIIIIIIIIIIIIIC

Mirabelle Gardens

I'm actually really glad now that we decided to go to the castle the day prior because it gave the kids the historical placement of Schloß Mirabelle, not just as a backdrop for Rogers & Hammerstein.

It was, of course, freezing and many walkways and paths were closed.

Under the covered trellis where the children sang Do-Re-Mi, there was this incredible "family tree" of Greek and Roman mythology. (It was huge, so no photos I'm afraid.)  I was relieved yet again as a homeschooling mother at the historical, literary, artistic, and cultural references that the kids all recognized and/or made while they ran by the sign.

Then of course came the steps.
And the kids trying to perform on them.

And me trying not to laugh and shake the camera while they tried to perform on them.

We have a few more minutes..... how about a quick stop at Nonnberg Abbey? How did I not previously realize that this was a Benedictine abbey?

"We just want to see Fraulein Maria..."

As long as we're here.......

During Steven's Austria semester, a group of students got together for an old fashioned style portrait. Since we'd already passed by this shop approximately a bazillion times in our comings and goings, we decided to stop and have the kids take a picture. This is the stuff memories are made of.

It's not that much farther......

One last stop at the Christmasmarkt for Glüwein and sausage.

When we realized that we couldn't make a visit to Germany, we decided to just drive from Salzburg on to Paris.

And then a dance around with finding a hotel, since the one we had reserved (that day) informed us in the confirmation email (sent that day) that they are closed on Wednesdays (that. day.)

So if we wanted to arrive on a Wednesday (the day that it currently was), we needed to contact them at least a day prior (which would be one day prior to when we made the reservation) by calling this number

(which had an answering machine that says "It's Wednesday, we're not here. Don't leave a message- this machine doesn't record.")

Free wifi at McDonalds in Stuttgart to the rescue!

And really, how can you turn down a hotel with the name "12 Apostel"? We got the Simone room. I was sort of holding out hope for Giaccamo.
