More Medical Musings

We've had this trip rattling around for a while but, as with seemingly all SMK2 trips, there were some medical..... complications.

Thankfully none of them involved exploding appendices this time.

In a perfect storm, Irene had several crises all at once.  But, as she said, "I could be miserable and in pain stuck at home, or I could be miserable and in pain being distracted by cool things in Spain."

Smart girl, that one.

With a lot of input from her whole medical team, a few minor administrative miracles, and an awful lot of hospital employees who now recognize my number on Caller ID, we are heading off.  Actually, we've kind of been told that we need to go.  It's like when doctors used to send patients to Bath to "take the waters".   Included in this trip are 4 cases of nutrition replacement, 1 wheelchair, and a service cat.

Yes.  A service. Cat.  Don't ask me to explain it.  All I know is that this kitten showed up on Christmas and now he yowls at us when she's about to faint.  He also gets people's attention and leads them back to her.  His name is Martin Theodore, but perhaps we should have named him Lassie.

Among the minor administrative miracles, we've been working for a month to get Irene Evusheld - a pre-exposure prophylactic antibody (say that a bunch of times fast.  I had to.) - so she can actually leave the house in this Time Of Omicron.  Nothing like cutting it to the wire, the paperwork was all finally figured out today, the infusion is tomorrow (an hour and a half away), and we leave on Friday.

Jonathan got home from college today. Rebecca leaves campus tomorrow, and we all meet in Valencia on Sunday!
