February 19 Health Is To Be Cultivated
FEBRUARY 19, 2019
Since we were trying to design this trip for the kids to miss as little choir as possible, we knew our schedule would be tight. Nearly every weekend of this year had a choir event scheduled. They had a music competition on Feb 16th.
The original plan had us leaving on Monday immediately after choir (9pm, for those keeping track) With 3 drivers, we could go through the night, arriving in CA Tuesday afternoon. Since our flight was Thursday morning, that would give us about a day to hang out with Kennedy relatives before spending Wednesday at a hotel near LAX.
There’s that line about the best laid plans of mice and men. Well, we had some mice in the wirings.
The day after that, Steven’s appendix ruptured and he had surgery.
But he recovered well and the surgeon said that he was totally safe to travel. (Until we said where we were going. At which point the Dr. said that Steven needed his own personal physician watching over him and the surgeon kindly offered to take the job.)
So… not a big deal? I think?

Wrong.
Two days before we were scheduled to leave, Irene was BACK in the hospital. The antibiotics weren't effective.
Two more nights in the hospital and they sent her home. Every doctor and nurse swore up and down that she was healthy to travel and, if she were their daughter, they'd continue on the trip as planned.

So, nibbling our nails to nubs - we set out.
