Obedience is to be cultivated

Steven was doing some home improvement stuff this afternoon. Jonathan had fallen asleep in the car, so rather than wake him, he left the garage door open and let Rebecca scamper about while he worked, so she could tell him if he woke up and cried.

(For those of you who are about to cry "bad parenting!!!!!" he was in the laundry room, Rebecca was in the garage about 10 feet away and Jonathan was in the car (windows down of course) 10 feet further than that. )

Every few minutes, Steven (while crashing and banging behind the dryer) would ask Rebecca if she could hear Jonathan, if Jonathan was awake, etc. She would cock her head to one side, look very intent, and tell Daddy that she could not hear him.

At one point, Steven asked Rebecca if she could go check on Jonathan and see that he was okay. She scampered off........... and scampered back. Steven -- from behind the dryer -- asked if Jonathan was okay. "I'm about to do that Daddy!" He grumbled a bit about the fact that she didn't obey him. Grumble. Grumble. Grumble. He finished up behind the dryer and went outside to make sure Rebecca was obeying this time (grumble. grumble.) And a humbling sight met his eyes.

Rebecca, obeying Daddy's command to go see if Jonathan was okay, had gone into the house, gotten a kitchen stool, carried it from the kitchen, through the Master bedroom and bathroom and laundry room, down the steps, through the garage, and out to the car. She had put it next to the truck and climbed up in order to look inside the truck and make sure that her baby brother was indeed okay.
